Lismore Thistles Soccer Club is the largest Club in Lismore and the 3rd largest in the region. In the 2009 season we will field 9 senior teams and 32 junior teams:
- 6 senior mens teams
- 3 senior womens teams
- 11 junior boys competitive teams
- 7 junior girls competitive teams
- 14 non competitive teams
Over the past 52 years we have built our club into one of the premier clubs in the region and our success has been due to a number of factors, and they include;
- We are a family oriented club
- The children are taught to enjoy themselves and have fun whilst playing soccer
- We do not feel that children need to “win at all costs” and that “winning is everything”
- We have coaches who care for the children.
For the past 5 years our juniors have grown from 13 to 32 teams and during this period, we have been the most successful junior club with our teams attaining the most minor and major premierships. This is truly a testament to the club’s values and coaching methods.
We have introduced new club clothing with emphasis on our junior clothing (in club colours) which is able to be worn to and from games, as well as to train in. To see a large number of children on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays wearing their training shirts is a terrific sight and puts the clubs name out into the community.
In January 2008 our club celebrated its 50th year with the hightlight being the 5oth Year Gala Evening, held at the Lismore Workers Club with 320 past and present players and famliy attending the evening and throughly enjoying themselves. We were fortunate to have 9 players from the original team attend and rekindle past friendships.
